Track Team Wins Greater Bostons

The Harvard track team made it four in a row yesterday with a victory in the Greater Boston Championships at Boston College.

The final score was Harvard 88, Northeastern 75, B.C. 43, B.U. 31, Tufts 29, M.I.T. 19, and Brandeis 4.

"The performances weren't quite as good as they were against Army," assistant coach Ed Stowell said, but we were sky high for Army since they knocked us around indoors.

"In addition, the Yale meet is coming up this weekend, and there's a lot of pressure on from that."

The highlight of the day came in the sub-varsity meet. Freshman Jim Kleiger cleared an amazing 16' 1/2" in the pole vault, breaking his own freshman record of 15 feet, set against Princeton. "It was a remarkable performance," said Stowell, "especially in the bitter cold."

Harvard's Spectacular Sprinters-Bud Wilson, John Schneider, Chris Alvord and Bailee Reed-won the sprint relays in 42.4. They outdistanced their nearest competitors by about 15 feet.

In the 220. Wilson took second place in 21.8 seconds while Alvord took third in 21.9.

In the three mile. Jon Enscoe, John Quirk and Tom New led all the way and took 1-2-3 respectively. All were timed at 14:33.5.

Mike Koerner took the six-mile for the Crimson in 30 minutes. Harvard's Marshall Jones took second, 13 seconds behind. Howie Corwin took first in the triple jump while Joe Naughton and Teddy DeMars took one-two in the shot-put.
