Renee Landers '77 was elected president of the Freshman Council last night, becoming the first woman to hold that position.
The only woman among the seven candidates for the post, Landers won after four ballots. The council will select two members to be vice president and secretary-treasurer at its meeting next week.
After the election Landers said her general goal for the council was to make the group "a more active body in University circles, not just in the freshman class, through our committee representation."
Landers said that she wanted to work with the Faculty and administration tc achieve her first goal, the adoption of the early semester plan.
This is the second year that women have lived in the Yard, and have served on the council; no women ran for the presidency last year.
