The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Oakland A's won their respective pennants yesterday, creating a California World Series.
The Dodgers blasted the Pirates 12-1 for the largest margin in playoff history. Steve Garvey smashed two homers to pace the 12-hit Dodger attack.
Don Sutton, who blanked the Bucs in the first game, tamed the Pirate bats on only three hits for eight innings. Reliever Mike Marshall applied the finishing touches in the ninth.
The A's eked out a 2-1 victory against the Orioles on only one hit. Mike Cuellar's wildness and Reggie Jackson's double accounted for the Oakland runs. Baltimore scored a run off of Jim Hunter in the seventh, but Rollie Fingers extinguished the Oriole threat.
