CRR, Continued

The Winthrop House committee last night postponed a decision on whether to begin the process of appointing student representatives to the Committee on Rights and Responsibilities (CRR), a University body that disciplines students involved in political protests.

House committee members said last night they feel they do not know enough about the CRR and the reasons for the student boycott to vote to begin a selection process that could bring an end to the five-year boycott of the CRR.

The committee will meet next Monday to hear a report on the CRR and the student boycott, and will then decide whether to name an 11-member panel of Winthrop students to nominate up to two of its members to serve on the CRR.

Students have refused to serve on the CRR since the Faculty established it as a permanent body in 1970, making students a minority of the CRR and allowing it to admit hearsay evidence and deny students the right to counsel.

Students in Mather House voted last week by a narrow margin to select an 11-member panel of Mather students that is empowered to nominate students for the CRR. The Mather panel will meet sometime after Thanksgiving vacation, William H. Hammet '77, a member of the panel, said Monday.
