Count Basie, conductors Seiji Ozawa and Sarah Caldwell and cellist-conductor Mstislav Rostropovich are among the big-name performers coming to Harvard this year as part of the Learning from Performers program, the Office for the Arts announced yesterday.

Other musical performers enlisted by the program include trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, pianist McCoy Tyner, reedman Rahsaan Roland Kirk and trumpeters Quincy Jones and Nat Adderly.

Claus Oldenberg will conduct workshops in sculpture and Alvin Ailey will teach choreography.

Also part of the program, Harold Prince will coach selected students on theatrical productions this weekend.

The program is now in progress, with its first artist in residence, Les McCann, conducting workshops while staying at Lowell House.

Beverly Sills will come to Harvard next year as part of the Program.
