Crimson Matmen End Season A Distant Eleventh at Easterns

By Kathleen T. Riley

The Crimson grapplers ended a soggy season with a dismal eleventh-place finish at the Easterns Championship last weekend. Lehigh picked up the laurels, sweeping seven of the ten weight classes, while the host team Navy placed second.

Harvard's only place winner in the meet, freshman Sal D'Agostino, squashed Bill Acerno of Temple, 9-1, in the first round on Friday. D'Agostino lost in the quarterfinals to Don McCortel of Lehigh, who subsequently won the class.

D'Agostino bounced back in the wrestle box to pin his Princeton opponent, Mike Cribbs, in 1:39. He followed with another pin against Pennsylvania's Don Haines in 4:04.

The trend did not continue, as D'Agostino's bid for third failed and he finished fifth, beating Al Head of Syracuse.

Coach Johnny Lee said yesterday the competition was extremely tough, particularly the "vastly stronger" Lehigh. "It was unlikely that someone from the team even placed," he added.
