After the meeting, Mayor Vellucci reaffirmed his opposition to recombinant DNA research and said that he would vote against allowing it.

Vellucci planned to propose an extension of the present moratorium on DNA research at last night's council meeting.

Vellucci said he did not propose the extension because he had not seen the special committee's report, which council members had expected to receive prior to last night's meeting.
