Alberta Arthurs, acting dean of freshmen, has not been selected as the first choice of the search committee to fill the currently vacant post, an official in the freshmen's dean office said yesterday.
The committee has chosen a white male outside the University who is currently employed by another college, the official, who asked not to be identified, said.
Arthurs, who was considered a leading candidate for the position, is currently under consideration for the presidency of Colby Junior College in New London, N.H., a spokesman for the college confirmed last week.
Dean Fox would not comment on the selection yesterday. Fox said the candidate would have to be consulted as to whether he would accept the job and the selection would have to be approved by the Corporation before it became official.
