Leftists, Ruling Parties Even in French Voting

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A socialist-communist alliance and the ruling coalition parties were running nearly neck-and-neck in the first round of French parliamentary elections yesterday, diminishing chances for a leftist government.

Vote counting was called off late last night until today.
