Raoul Bott, Graustein Professor of Mathematics, and his wife. Phyllis Bott, will replace James Vorenberg '50 and Elizabeth W. Vorenberg as co-masters of Dunster House when they resign on July 1, 1978, President Bok officially announced this week.

"It all happened quite unexpectedly in about a week's time. I'm still a little bit shocked," Bott said yesterday.

"I don't really know what is expected of me, but it is my hope that it will be fun and allow me to continue to do my thing. I intend it not to destroy me as a scholar," Bott said.

Vorenberg said yesterday. "I think Professor and Mrs. Bott are an excellent choice. The students at Dunster House are very, very lucky."

"The Botts were selected on a combination of availability and suitability." Dean Fox, who was a member of the search committee that chose them, said yesterday.

The committee, which also included President Bok, President Horner and Dean Rosovsky, began considering candidates in December.

James Q. Wilson, Shattuck Professor of Government, and Karl Strauch, Leverett Professor of Physics, were among the final 12 candidates under consideration, Fox said.
