The Harvard women's squash team lost its first head-to-head match of the season yesterday, falling to defending national and Howe Cup champion Princeton after defeating Penn. 5-2, on Saturday.
The racquetwomen, whose only other losses came in the Howe Cup tourney to Princeton and Yale last weekend, dropped a 5-2 decisions as only Wendy Sonnabend and Ellie Cunningham managed to win their matches.
Top ranked Becky Tung and number two Cynthia Stanton succumbed in three straight games to their Princeton adversaries. Nell Foreman defaulted her match in the third slot because she had sustained an injury against Penn.
Princeton's Lee Tilney swept freshman Courtney Stimpson, 15-10, 18-13, 15-12. Captain Jenny Stone lost a five-game squeaker to Tiger Sue Forster, falling 15-5 in the decisive contest.
Sonnabend registered an impressive win in the sixth position, demolishing her opponent, 15-12, 15-7, 15-9. Cunningham displayed courage and stamina, rebounding from a 2-1 deficit to dump Ann Clark of Princeton in five games.
The Crimson's head-to-head record this season now stands at 7-1.
