MONTREAL--Iranian students in the United States have been flooding Canadian immigration offices with requests for information about transferring to Canadian schools.

No official statistics have been released but Canadian government spokesmen say requests for visa applications have soared since Iranina militants took American diplomats hostage in the U.S. Embassy in Tehran.

Canadian universities are also answering record numbers of requests for transfer information. A spokesman for the University of Alberta said the university has been receiving six to 12 phone calls daily from worried Iranians in the United States. Normally the university gets only three or four inquiries per month, he said.
