BUFFALO, N.Y.--When it was obvious that Boston goalie Pete Peeters would lose his first start in 32 games and his bid to tie a National Hockey League record, the Bruins left the bench and congratulated him.

"We gave him moral support," right wing Rick Middleton said after yesterday's 3-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. "Unfortunately, we didn't win it for him."

The Bruins were assessed a bench penalty, but nobody seemed to mind.
