50 Ways to Get a Job

Representatives from over 50 companies and government organizations ranging from The New York Times to IBM and the FBI to the Peace Corps will discuss job opportunities today in Memorial Hall as part of the second annual Career Forum held by the Office of Career Services and Off-Campus Learning (OCS/OCL).

The program is designed to expose career options to both seniors and underclassmen not intending to attend graduate school.

"We want students to be aware of the resources available through OCS/OCL at the beginning of the year," said forum coordinator John Noble.

Noble said twice as many firms and organizations will attend the forum as last year's.

He added that OCS/OCL does not seek to introduce students to a particular company, but rather to the various sectors of the job market. Banking, advertising, high technology and the media are among the major areas featured this year.

Last April, Noble began lining up firms for the forum by circulating letters to companies which has previously recruited at Harvard. During the summer he followed through with phone calls to the various recruiters.

Though many undergraduates interviewed yesterday were not aware of the forum, those who had heard of is, particularly seniors, expressed enthusiasm.

"The forum will be helpful to many undergrads," said Gilberto Pimental '64 "it will give them an overview of areas to look into."
