Shervet Frazier, chief of psychology at Harvard-owned McLean Hospital and a professor of psychiatry at the Med School, has been picked in a nationwide search to head the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).

It's unclear when Frazier will have to take over the $250 million Bethesda, Md., executive branch agency, currently headed by an acting director.

Frazier came to Harvard from the New York State Psychiatric Institute in 1972.
