Harvard men's basketball Co-Captain Joe Carrabino '84-5 has been named to the Academic All-American first team, the College Sports Information Directors' Association (CoSIDA) announced yesterday.
The selection came on the eve of Carrabino's entry into the Harvard basketball record books as the team's all-time leading scorer (see story, page 1).
"I was a little surprised," Carrabino said last night after Columbia topped his squad, 62-58. "It's a real nice honor--I'm just glad the other sports information directors considered me a good enough player to be on the first team."

Academic awards are not new for Carrabino, who was a fourth-team Academic. All-American selection after his sophomore season and received the New England Basketball Coaches Scholar Athlete Award last year.
The 6 ft. 9 in forward will be featured in a Scholar Athlete segment to be televised by CBS tomorrow during halftime of the Washington-Notre Dame College basketball game
