The Harvard women's tennis team opened its spring season yesterday by blasting Minnesota, 9-0, at the Gordon Track and Tennis Center.
Minnesota, fresh off upsetting Northwestern, the nation's number 10 team, anticipated a closer match.
"We were expecting a victory, but Harvard did a better job of winning the big points," said Minnesota Coach David Creighton.
Junior Kristin Bland, Harvard's number-one player, won a gruelling match against Minnesota's Anne Gorde, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4.
"The ability match was close but I played very well," said Bland. "This should get us psyched for the upcoming tournament in Wisconsin."
