M. Ruggers Take Lead In Metro League Action

The Harvard men's rugby club held onto its undefeated Metro League mark with 33-0 blanking of Boston College Saturday in front of 100 spectators at Soldiers Field.

The win, along with the Crimson's 16-0 blowout against Tufts last Saturday and a trouncing of Tufts earlier in the season mark Harvard as the undisputed leader of the Metro League. The Crimson has a 3-0 league record, 4-2 overall.

The Crimson amassed a 14-0 lead at the half, and didn't look back in the second half. Six team members scored trys, including a tally on an amazing run by Mark Sager. Steve Cohn, Soren Oberg, Chris Crisera, Dave Bulger and Sam Yoon all also scored for the Crimson. Will Rava was Harvard's strength at forward, leaping to spare high balls away from the struggling Eagles.

Wide Tie

Last week Boston College tied Northeastern, 10-10, in a battle between two of the toughest teams in the Metro League--a result that bodes well for the cruising Crimson.

"The game was a great indication of what we can do," Captain Scott Hilinski said. "We just keep picking up each game."

The Crimson is now trying to pick up more and more points to improve its seeding as the New England Championships approach. The championships will be held on November 4 in Worcester. There, Harvard will be trying to qualify for Northeasterns, which it hasn't reached in several seasons.

The Crimson now goes on to face Northeastern in a Metro Leaguc tilt next Saturday at Magazine Beach. The game is billed as Harvard's toughest match left in the season.

"We're confident, but not too confident," Hilinski said.

Radcliffe Rugby

The Radcliffe rugby club opened its fall season with a fifth-place finish at the nine-team Beantown Tournament this weekend at Soldiers Field.

The University of Vermont finished first to capture the Mayor's Cup.

The Black and White played three games, blanking Southern Connecticut, 32-0, dropping a 15-10 decision to Dartmouth and battling to a scoreless tie with Brown.

Alex Williams led all Radcliffe scorers with four trys. Andrea Eror and Yolanda Lewis both scored two trys in the Southern Connecticut game.

Against the Big Green, the Black and White led 10-9 late in the second half, but Dartmouth came back to win the game.

"We played well together," Captain Eunjie Kahn said. "We have a relatively new team. I was impressed by our effort."
