Crimson Blows 11-Point Halftime Lead

By Andy Fine

While the Harvard women's basketball team was hoping to make a comeback in the second half of its season to catch league-leading Dart-mouth, it fell victim to a second half comeback by Penn, falling to the Quakers last night, 71-68, before 182 fans at the Palestra.

The Crimson (6-4 Ivy) led Penn (5-6), 43-32 at halftime. But the Quakers refused to quit, outscoring Harvard by 14 points in the second half to nab the visitors.

Junior guard Beth Wambach led the losers with 19 points, while forward Jody Fink snared eight rebounds.

Forward Dionne Anthon and guard Jen Dorfmeister pumped in 20 points apiece, while combining for 19 rebounds.

The Quakers excelled on the attack, grabbing 19 offensive boards. But the Crimson really commit suicide, when it committed a whopping 20 turnovers, compared to 11 miscues for Penn.

In addition, the Crimson converted an atrocious 36% from the foul line in the second half, while the Quakers missed only four times in the second frame.

The Crimson travels to Princeton tonight for another Ivy contest.
