U.C. Comedy Evening Draws Sell-Out Crowd

Three comedians and the Harvard-Radcliffe Callbacks entertained about 300 students last night at a comedy show sponsored by the Undergraduate Council.

Headlining the show was Chris Zito, from the Comedy Central cable TV show and 94.5 FM, whose jokes touched on such varied subjects as fatherhood and Halloween.

Brian Kiley, who has appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, also performed, and host Matt Grahm offered a few jokes to maintain the comedy theme.

Zito told of his cousin who was killed and mutilated in a car accident. As a pallbearer, Zito dropped his cousin's casket, and saw the head roll out into another person's grave as the other person's family was visiting.

Grahm was a workaholic, and therefore had stopped working in order to enter a 12-step program.

Reactions to the program were mixed.

"I laughed every minute and the Callbacks were great," said Nick C. Buford '97, especially praising the Callbacks' rousing rendition of "Centerfold."

On the other hand, Aaron Y. Mandel '97 said some parts of the show were better than others. "The first two guys [Grahm and Kiley] sucked eggs, but the last guy [Zito] was pretty good. Instead of this, the Undergraduate Council should get bigger name performers," Mandel said.

This was the second year that the council's campus life committee has sponsored a free evening of comedy. Council member Hassen A. Sayeed '96 expressed the group's desire to continue the comedy concerts and make them an annual, or even semiannual, event.
