$2000 in Women's Clothing Stolen From City Sports

Nearly $2000 worth of women's clothing was stolen Sunday morning from the newly opened City Sports store on Dunster Street, police said yesterday.

Wearing a trenchcoat, a male suspect broke into the store and took $1800 worth of merchandise, police said. He attempted to get in twice, smashing the front window and door. A security camera caught part of the incident on film, police said.

The alarm went off twice; once when the man was in the store and once when the police entered the store.

Harvard police arrived after the suspect had left the store. Police Chief Paul E. Johnson said the perpetrator "helped himself to items at the front of the store and made a successful escape."
