Grant Deserves To Be Admitted

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In response to Harvard's admissions decision regarding Gina Grant, I wish to announce my own intention to rescind all promises and expectations of financial contributions to Harvard. As an alumnus and a member of the medical school faculty, I take a serious interest in the whole-someness of this institution. I am now appalled at the appearance of heartless and punitive rigidity in Harvard's choice to rescind Grant's admission.

I believe, given what information has been made, public, that Grant's decision to withhold such vulnerable information was not only justified by available legal guidelines, but also may have reflected good judgment. Perhaps Harvard has more pertinent information bearing on its ultimate decision; in that case, I wish Harvard would not persist in withholding information from a concerned public. As the parties at Harvard involved in this matter consider which facts to disclose and which to keep private, perhaps they may discover some empathy for the position of Grant.

As things stand, I am moved to take a stern position with respect to Harvard, and hence rescind my own commitments to give Harvard financial support. I hope that others will feel similarly moved. Stuart A. Pizer '66
