Square Crossing Is Dangerous

It finally has happened. Pedestrians in Harvard Square are fed up and fighting back at the intersection of John F. Kennedy Street and Massachusetts Avenue.

They are giving drivers who have ignored traffic lights for year a taste of their own medicine. The strategy appears to be cross the street while you can during a lull in traffic, because you might not get the chance when the cars, cabs, buses and trucks increase their speed the second they see yellow light.

Cambridge should take a lesson from Boston, which is using police cadets to direct traffic and ticket reckless drivers.

I strongly recommend immediate action before a confrontation results in an unnecessary tragedy, and the whole Square turns into a traffic light free zone. Vivian KurKjian   Cambridge, MA
