"Don King" and "Harvard Law School" are two names that most people would not associate with one another. To begin with, the former arranges for large, sweaty men to pummel one another into oblivion while the latter attempts to train the young minds who will formulate our nation's laws.
Yet two days ago the wacky-haired mogul of boxing promotion gave a rousing talk at Harvard Law School in which he urged his audience to "make a difference" in doing away with racism.
While the message is a nice one, one has to wonder why King was asked to speak at the Law School in the first place. While the large-sweaty-men-versus-future-lawmakers distinction does not necessarily preclude inviting him, his reputation as slime-covered bottom feeder certainly might.
Even if you ignore his one felony conviction (murder) and his two acquittals (fraud, murder), his reputation as a shameless exploiter of young boxers is probably enough to convince most HLS students to look else-where for a role model.
We hope.
