After a tumultuous weekend at the Northern Division Tournament, the Harvard men's water polo team (2-2, 2-1 EWPA) looks to rebound tonight against MIT.
Unlike the national caliber competition found at the Division Tourney, MIT remains stuck in the lower echelon of men's water polo.
And for a team like Harvard that is on its way up, looking to challenge the best teams in the region, tonight's match is more of a burden than an aide.
"I don't even know if [playing MIT] is a good warm-up because we are so much better than them," said senior Marty Edlund. "We have been playing really intensely in practice, so I think that the best thing we can do is play against each other."
Nonetheless, the Crimson must face-off against the Engineers in a game which was originally scheduled to be Harvard's season opener.
Perhaps an easy contest would have helped the Crimson before it headed off to the Division Tournament. Although it ended up spliting the weekend, Harvard lost two crucial matches to UMass and league rival Queens.
"I wish we had been able to play MIT," said junior Mike Zimmerman. "That game would have helped to get the kinks out."
Tonight Harvard will have that chance to get the kinks out before it faces Brown on Friday night.
