Four Gongs for The Crimson

To the editors:

Just when I thought the last echoes had faded away, Adams House is smacked once again in an editorial about the "No Interhouse Gong Show" ("Pack Up the Gong," Dec. 2). In keeping with your image of the belligerent Adamsian, I now present the "Crimson Editorial Gong Show."

You state that "Adams House Master Robert J. Kiely...defended the show in a letter to The Crimson." Gong! The letter defends the interhouse policy and the sense of House community it was intended to foster; the gong show never earns a mention.

You suggest that dining hall employees have to enforce a policy they don't support. Gong! The staff supported tightened restrictions because of the heavily increased workload, as well as the appallingly rude behavior of some of the interhouse violators.

You say that "the popularity of the Adams dining hall enhances the collegial atmosphere there." Gong! Not if you don't know or acknowledge the person who's inches from your left elbow while you savor your baked tofu.

And one last big gong for something you left out: a disclosure statement. The authors work out of The Crimson's offices, conveniently located right next door to the dining facilities at Adams House.

By following two simple guidelines, anyone from any House will be warmly welcomed at Adam: Be nice to our staff and talk to our students. Remember, you're not just making friends; you're making friends who can check you in at peak mealtimes. JAMIE CIOCCO '94   Dec. 3, 1998
