Mather House Outsources to UNICCO

By Imtiyaz H. Delawala, Crimson Staff Writer

Following the lead of Leverett and Quincy Houses, Mather House announced yesterday that it will outsource a portion of its bathroom cleaning to an outside contractor.

Beginning next Tuesday, the House will use the services of UNICCO--a nationwide maintenance and janitorial services company--to supplement Dorm Crew cleaning in its low-rise suites.

Dorm Crew will continue cleaning the Mather House tower bathrooms on Thursdays and Fridays.

House Co-master Leigh G. Hafrey '73 said he hopes that the new service will help alleviate the cleaning shortages that have occurred this year.

"The new arrangement should guarantee once-a-week cleaning in both areas of the House," Hafrey said "We've heard enough from other Houses to think that this should help."

Dorm Crew has suffered a shortage of workers all year, prompting several houses to seek outside help in order to get student restrooms cleaned.

Currier House also plans on enlisting the services of UNICCO in the near future, but has yet to set a starting date.

Dorm Crew supervisor Robert Wolfreys told The Crimson earlier this month that he welcomes the outsourcing.

"In a perfect world, Dorm Crew could do it all," Wolfreys said. "But as long as the bathrooms get taken care of, it's a good thing."
