1) “the bee”

Harvard Bookstore pulls yet another fun trick out of its sleeve by cohosting a spelling bee (creatively dubbed “the bee”) with the Brattle Theatre and Houghton Mifflin Company. Looking for an ego boost? The “All-Ages Bee” (read: little kids) starts at 6:00 p.m., followed by the classic film “A Boy Named Charlie Brown.” At 9:30 things get adult when the grown-up competition begins, complete with a beer and five syllable words.

Thursday, October 5. Tickets $10, competition fee for the Adult Bee $5, which includes a copy of “100 Words to Make You Sound Smart.” The Brattle Theater.

2) Greek Folk Dance

Get your Greek on with the friendly folk of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary.

3) An Evening With Champions

Care a little about kids with cancer and a lot about ice skaters spinning in spandex? Come to this annual figure skating extravaganza put on by Eliot House students to raise dough for the Jimmy Fund and the Dana Farber Carter Institute. The show is seriously star-studded: check out Oksana Bauil (1994 Olympic Gold Medalist) on Friday night only.

4) Open Bark Poetry Night

Tap into the Cantabrigian poetry scene by reading verses from your creative writing class or singing a song. Hosted by Deborah Priestly, gallery-owner and poet.

5) East Coast Grill and Raw Bar Brunch
