Deadline Extended: Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
Spend a week exploring journalism, careers in media, and
college admissions alongside editors of an award-winning college
newspaper.
Thanks for your interest in The Harvard Crimson's Summer 2008 Journalism
Academy. This free, weeklong day program in August will expose
participants to the world of journalism through workshops, field trips, guest
speakers, and hands-on reporting exercises. If you're selected, you'll work
closely with other Greater Boston public high school students and undergraduate
editors of the award-winning Harvard Crimson. You'll learn about all steps of
newspaper production at The Crimson's headquarters in Cambridge, MA, and at the
end of the week you and your fellow participants will produce a newspaper of
your own. Additionally, you'll gain an inside look at the college admissions
process and campus life during your exciting week at this vibrant
university.
Below are links to an information sheet and brief application. You must be a
student at a Greater Boston or Cambridge public high school to be eligible. The
main criteria for selection are interest and facility in writing, ability to
work well with a team of other students, and commitment to improvement;
experience in scholastic journalism is a plus, but not a requirement. More information about the program is available below as well as a copy of this year's application. The
deadline for postmarking application materials is rolling but priority will be given to students who apply early. Please contact Abby Phillip, Director of Public
Service, at adphill@fas.harvard.edu to let us know that you intend to apply to the program.
More information about The Harvard Crimson and its operations can be found at
www.thecrimson.com. If you have
questions about our program and the application process, or have difficulty
accessing the files below, please don't hesitate to contact Abby Phillip at
one of the addresses above.
Hope to see you in August!
