Need a study break? (That's a trick question—when do you not?) Need to find gifts for everyone on your list? (Of course you do.) Kill two birds with one stone by heading out of Lamont and into the Square for half an hour. You'll come back refreshed and ready to start your paper and, better yet, with all your holiday shopping done.

If you're in need of a boost while studying for all those finals, head over to Clover tomorrow from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. for free cider, donuts, and coffee, sponsored by the Food Literacy Project.

Information will be on hand about the history and process of making coffee and cider donuts, as well as about the importance of sustainability in food.

"One of our goals is to reach out to the community around Harvard," FLP Co-Captain Celia Y. Zhang '13 said. Zhang said that this study break was not just about enjoying free food, but about educating students about where the food comes from.

Students can RSVP for the event here.

Instead of watching Thanksgiving Day football games or televised holiday events, head out into Harvard Square this Thursday if you're around campus during the break to see what local vendors are offering for the day.

Hats are making a comeback, according to employees at Goorin Brothers Hat Shop, which opened a franchise on Brattle Street this past August. The store's selection includes a popular fedora named Mortimer, a funky line of baseball caps titled Animal Farm, and a $140 hat called Johnny Blue Eyes with fold-down ear flaps. As the shop settles into its new home, The Crimson stopped by to learn about its history, merchandise, and which hats will keep you warm on snowy October nights.

From Japanese sushi to Mexican burritos to Indian curries, there is a diverse range of ethnic cuisine in Harvard Square. And there is a new eatery in town that serves fresh, baked-to-order Belgian waffle. Zinneken's, located on Mass Ave. in a space previously occupied by Arrow Street Crepes, is founded by Nhon Ma and Bertrand Lempkowicz, who first met in high school in the 90s. "Zinneke," in Brussels dialect, means someone of mixed origins, which not only represents the founders, but also their ambitions to introduce authentic Belgian food to Cambridge and its visitors. Zinneken's serves Belgian waffle made of dough melted with pearl sugar drops, so it has distinct density and texture different from the traditional American waffles made from liquid batter.

Every year, the Phillip Brooks House Association holds a plant sale outside of Mower through the month of September. Alongside this annual sale, there are a number of florist shops in the area selling plants and flowers year round. With these options at hand, students seeking to add a bit of green, leafy life to their dorms need not look any farther than the Square.
