Ten Months in the Making, HUBweek Prepares for Launch

HUBweek will kick off this Saturday with the first in a series of diverse lectures, art installations, panels and forums that will comprise the week-long celebration of Boston area innovation and arts.

​Twenty-three candidates are running for nine available Cambridge City Council positions in the city’s biennial elections, with seven of the nine incumbents joining together for a shared campaign platform.


Fluff Festival

The 10th annual Fluff Festival took place on Saturday, September 26 in Union Square, where fluff was invented in 1917. The festival included musical performances, a cooking contest, games, and plenty of marshmallows!


Downpour Delays Mount Auburn Street Construction

Pedestrian traffic has been re-routed and motor vehicles limited to one lane of travel to make way for repairs on Mount Auburn Street sidewalks and roadways.


'Pink Out' for Planned Parenthood

Participants check-in for 'Pink Out Day for Planned Parenthood' in the Adams Junior Common Room. The Harvard College Democrats and Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts organized the event where students donned pink and canvassed in Harvard Square in support of the organization Tuesday night.


Fluffernutters

People stand in line for fluffernutter sandwiches, which are filled with peanut butter and fluff. This fundraiser, run by Somerville Public Schools, sells over 2,000 sandwiches every year at the annual Fluff Festival.


Fear Factor Fluff

Sue Geller prepares the fluff for Fear Factor Fluff, where visitors tried out different, unexpected combinations of fluff and other ingredients such as spam and hot sauce.


Marshmallows Galore

Donna Mae Pascizniak, the author and publisher of Marshmallows Galore, holds up her children’s book near the entrance of the Fluff Festival. Pascizniak was inspired “while day dreaming at work,” and she quit that job to pursue the book.


Al’s and Clover To Headline Exodus From Campus Center

​Businesses located in Harvard’s Smith Campus Center, including local institutions like Al’s Cafe and the Clover Food Lab, must vacate their spaces in the next several months to make way for planned renovations.


Affection for a Great City

"I have an affection for a great city. I feel safe in the neighborhood of man, and enjoy the sweet security of the streets," reads the side of the cash box, quoting Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The bookstore on the corner of Brattle Street and Farwell Place runs off the honor system, where customers are responsible for paying for the books they take from the table.


Sanctuary

Organist James Woodman prepares for Tuesday evening mass at the Society of Saint John the Evangelist near Harvard Square. The monastery chapel is open to local residents for daily periods of quiet prayer.


Free Waffles

Steven Kunis '17 and Kathryn J. Gunderson '17 enjoy free waffles as part of Zinneken's four-year anniversary event on Tuesday evening. The shop made 800 waffles in preparation for the event, according to a representative.
