Respect Our Referenda

It is disturbing that the administration has chosen to display such a cold disregard for the voice of the student body.

What We’re Thankful For

We have many things to be grateful for, both at Harvard and in the U.S. at large.

A Watershed Election

Although we remain skeptical of the role and potential of the UC, we hope that Raghuveer and Zhu will prove us and other skeptics wrong.

Kosher for All

Discrimination based on racial and religious distinction is inherently harmful and unacceptable whatever the justification. HUDS and Hillel should continue to work together to create a solution in which the special dietary needs of observant students are met while the community spirit of Hillel is upheld.

Mr. Yale, Tear Down This Hall

Yale’s decidedly masturbatory “Architecture of Yale” web page confesses that “Connecticut Hall is in many ways a Harvard building.” Admitting there is a problem is an excellent first step.

Paternalistic Policies

More problematic than the policy’s ambiguity is the administration’s paternalistic insistence on enforcing rules that extend well beyond Massachusetts drinking law.

George for UC

While Michael C. George ’14 and his running mate Granath may not be precisely the “revolutionary” ticket they present themselves to be, we would like to express our support for their candidacy.

Triangulate or Die

No party can establish for itself a viable future if that future hinges on low turnout among young people and minorities. It is not only morally wrong, but also futile.

Legalize Those Meds

Like alcohol and tobacco, marijuana can be dangerous. But it is not cocaine or heroine, and it does not carry with it the same potential for a breakdown in civil society.

Harvard Lends a Helping Hand

While the efforts of those on campus may be only a small part of the larger national effort to rebuild, as the Harvard College Red Cross emphasized, no amount of help is too small to make a difference.

Democracy At Work

There is little doubt that activism has done much to steer the University forward, and the work of contemporary student activists ought to be commended in the same regard.

Four More Years!

We are pleased that the general election resulted in a victory for Barack Obama, clearly the right choice for America and our endorsee for president.

A Two Year Election?

The American punditocracy has been covering this horserace for 22 months.

Don't Hate the Player, Hate the Game

It is unfortunate that students feel the need to seek jobs in the private sector due to informal institutional barriers or pressure at any school. Nonetheless, we look forward to the Law School continuing to make it easier for HLS students to pursue the career they are truly passionate about.

Name, Year, House, PGP?

Despite generally best intentions, Harvard is still not as trans-friendly a school as we could be.

Justice for Sexual Assault Victims

It is tragic that Amherst’s administration handled Epifano’s sexual assault case so poorly. But it is doubly so considering the myriad of barriers that already stand between sexual assault victims and justice.

A Night To Be Free

It is our continual urge to moralize on the subject of sexualized costumes that should give us pause, rather than the costumes themselves.

In Praise of Architecture

We urge God to reconsider sending hurricanes and tropical storms our way. In the meantime, we urge humankind to continue building.

A Penal System

The Ad Board process, as framed now, is much more like a trial than a not-for-credit seminar about plagiarism. It would behoove the University to acknowledge this, and to give the students who go before the Board for disciplinary reasons, be they academic or non-academic, the rights anyone should have under a disciplinary system.

It’s the Priorities, Stupid

While President Obama’s stewardship of the economy has been admirable, it is important to also assess both the candidates’ past performances and their respective priorities when deciding who to support this November.

Beyond Binders

HKS should examine and consider reforming its system of tenure so that it may be more compatible with the lives of women.

Defending a Dream

The University has a duty to support its students no matter what their legal status, and thankfully, the University has delivered.

Supporting Sex Week

The more that people know about consent and the importance of respect in sexual relationships, and the more that sex is seen as a positive, affirming thing, the more likely people are to practice consent and respect.

The Future of Scholarship

A non-profit venture, edX was created to further a mission of accessible education started by MITx in 2011. With $60 million in startup capital provided by Harvard and MIT, edX constitutes one of the largest investments made in online education.
