Freshman Formal Postponed!
Freshmen who had not yet grown accustomed to life at Harvard were made a little more so Wednesday evening when they learned their formal dance, previously scheduled for Friday, had been postponed. The cause: a blizzard. Yes, that's right, a blizzard. Forty-five mile per hour winds, feet of snow, near zero visibility—the works. (An Act of God, you ask? Freshmen Strut the Runway in Halloween Catwalk
The John Harvard statue uprooted himself from his normal spot outside University Hall on Friday to strut down a table-top runway in Annenberg during the annual Halloween Costume Catwalk. At the end of the runway, the statue, a freshman sporting a bronzed face and gray suit, returned to his “chair,” placed in front of the judge’s table. Then, Matthew T. Barber '16, one of the event’s emcees, placed his foot on John Harvard’s knee to mimic the late-night tradition of urinating on the University’s namesake.
What Not to Miss this Parents Weekend
You can recognize them by the crimson buttons proudly displayed on their chests—parents have been flooding into the yard since early Friday morning. Freshman Parents Weekend is finally here. Many students may rejoice at the opportunity of spending some time with their parents, from whom they parted two long months ago. But for others, Parents Weekend signals a last minute room cleaning session and a low-key Friday night. Despite the rich compilation of events designed by the Office of Student Life, it might be hard to choose what to do. Here are five things freshmen and parents should not miss.
