Correlation Still Doesn't Equal Causation in Soda Studies

We've all heard about the supposed health risks of drinking soda—there's too much sugar, it's bad for you, it'll rot your teeth, it'll rot your mind, etc. With so many studies and reports being published, it's hard to tell what to believe. Recently, a Harvard teaching facility has admitted to promoting inconclusive data while another Harvard study links soda consumption to increased aggression.

'stop blowing chunks flyby'

There's never a dull moment reading through the Flyby Tip Box submissions. From entries that really should have remained between the curious searcher and his/her own hand (see Sept. 10) to unsolicited statements about movies and food stuffs (see Oct. 6 and Oct. 16), the mistaken searches and comments submitted through the Tip Box are always a riot to read, if not one of my finest daily pleasures. Below, a selection from September and October.

Gawker Strikes at Harvard Again and Again

Going to a reputable university like Harvard has its downsides: having to drop the H-Bomb, saying you go to school in Boston, and dealing with so called "Harvard Problems." We've all heard people say "I have too many amazing classes to choose from" or "I have to climb too many stairs to get to my room because of the high ceilings." As a reprieve, Flyby brings you a list of some "humbling" posts from Gawker and Jezebel.

The Internet Blow Up

Tastemaker is a series in which we reserve the right to opine. This week, the Internet Blow Up. #Whatshouldwecallme didn't stand a chance. In a year defined by what Flyby will refer to as the "Internet Blow Up," any slightly amusing online trend instantly became fodder for every blog and/or facebook status update. What once made us laugh now gives us the urge to report as spam, or at least vomit a little in our mouths and then all over our keyboards.

'drew faust love child'

More than a month since the last "From the Tip Box" article, a great deal has happened in the world of Flyby's email account. This past month saw Housing Day and the rankings leading up to Housing Day, which inspired a number of Tip Box comments. Still, some continued to unknowingly use the tool as a search engine and others tried to search only to realize seconds later the error of their ways (see March 28.) All in all, we saw a good balance of innocent searches, Flyby-directed comments, and useful, if not strange, animal-related tips. Below, a selection.
