Digging Through Donations
Curious to see what students decided to leave on campus, and hoping to find some gifts for the family—father’s day is coming up—I channeled my inner raccoon and dug through the Habitat for Humanity donation bins set up in the Yard. After two hours of digging and losing all of my dignity, I discovered that there were some pretty questionable items—and students—in the freshman class. Here's a recap of some of the notable items I found:
The Early Birds
Students, friends, and family flood the yard at 7:00 AM on Thursday in order to find seats for the morning exercises. Ticket-holders had been waiting outside of the gates as early as 5:00 AM.
Primal Scream
Upholding tradition, students streaked and shrieked through Harvard Yard on the eve of the first day of Spring exams.
Student Coordinators Limited by Yardfest Budget
Students involved in the College Events Board and Harvard College Concert Commission, the two organizations responsible for planning Yardfest, said they were severely limited by their budget.
MADE: Prefrosh Edition
While the age discrepancy is small, the gap between a prefrosh and a Harvard student is large. With their red Visitas folders and herd mentality, prefrosh spent the past weekend walking around Harvard Yard with wide eyes and dangling lanyards. It is easy to forget that that was us a few years ago. From living at home and taking AP tests to living in dorms and pulling all-nighters, how can a high school senior smoothly make the transition? Silas M. Farley is an ordinary prefrosh: naive, confused, and still immersed in high school. Can he discover his inner Ivy Leaguer and be MADE into a Harvard student?
Hot hot heat
Students soak in the sun and heat by tanning and studying in Tercentenary Theater. Tuesday marked the week's second consecutive day with above 70 degree temperatures, drawing students out into outdoor public areas and courtyards.
Yardfest 2012
Yardfest 2012, Harvard’s annual concert, features The Nostalgics, 3LAU, Das Racist, and the Cataracs. This event, put on by the College Events Board, was attended by Harvard students who enjoyed the music, food, and games.
