With McKinlock Renewal On Track, Faust Says River Houses Remain the Priority
As the newly released plans for the Dunster House renewal take shape and construction on Leverett’s McKinlock Hall continues to progress, University President Drew G. Faust said on Tuesday that Harvard’s focus for House Renewal, at least for the time being, remains on the river.

When Valerie J. Piro ’14 was Currier HoCo chair, she couldn’t storm the freshman dorms on Housing Day like everyone else—she had to hand off the housing letters to a friend and watch as the rest of the group ran in. Dianna Hu ’15, a computer science concentrator, can’t use the back door of the science center—she has to enter through the front despite where she’s coming from, as there is no automatic button at the back for her to press. No matter how much she may want to, Chanel E. Washington ’15 can’t attend social events in certain houses; if the common rooms aren’t accessible, then she’s out of luck.
Plans for Dunster Renewal Unveiled, Construction Will Begin in June
Horizontal entryways, an art studio with a kiln, a “smart classroom,” and a new gym are among the features outlined in plans for the renewed Dunster House released Thursday.

Once renewal is complete in the fall of 2015, Dunster House will include a new smart seminar room, a new student lounge, fitness center, in addition to refurbished residences.

What To Do When There's Not House Renewal Construction
This week, Harvard announced that Winthrop will be in line after Dunster for House renewal, but it’s going to take a break from construction on any House in the 2015-2016 academic year first. Since we know students will miss being awoken in the early morning by the sounds of jack hammers, Flyby came up with a few ideas for projects that Harvard could pursue in the meantime.
Winthrop House To Be Renovated in 2016-2017
Winthrop’s planned renovation will follow a one-year break in House renewal construction following the renovation of Dunster House in 2014-2015, meaning that the 2015-2016 academic year will represent the first extended pause in the project.

Winthrop, pictured in a Crimson file photo from 2009, is the fourth House in line to be renovated as part of the House renewal project, the Winthrop House masters announced to the House community Wednesday evening.
Report, House Renewal at Center of First FAS Meeting
The Faculty of Arts and Sciences gathered Tuesday for the body’s first meeting of the fall semester to discuss a number of continuing initiatives on campus, including the pending relocation of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences to Allston, the new Harvard Museums of Science and Culture consortium, and the FAS Dean’s Annual Report for the 2012-2013 academic year.

This year, rumor has it that Leverett Dining Hall has rebranded itself as “Bistro Lev” due to Cambridge zoning laws which currently classify it as an assembly/residence. While we can’t speak to the truth of this, we know for certain that Harvard’s food scene has irrevocably changed.
