Midweek Matchup For No. 8 Harvard
So far this season, opponents of the Harvard men’s soccer team have been denied more times than freshman guys trying to enter final clubs. The Crimson defense, led by sophomore goalkeeper Austin Harms and senior defender Kwaku Nyamekye, has surrendered just three goals in Harvard’s first eight games. The No. 8 Crimson (7-1, 1-0 Ivy) looks to continue its dominance at the back this afternoon when it hosts in-state rival Holy Cross (3-6, 1-1 Patriot) at 3:00 p.m.
Rogers’ Goal Gives Harvard Win in Double-Overtime
In the 102nd minute of play, freshman standout Brian Rogers answered his team’s prayers. The 6’2 forward from Bronxville, N.Y. fired a shot into the left corner of the Bulldog’s net and simultaneously claimed the win for Harvard. With Rogers’ goal, Harvard pulled out a 1-0 win over Yale, improving its record to 7-1 for the season.
Harvard To Play Yale in Ivy League Opener
After a much-talked-about start in which the team won six consecutive games, the No. 8 Harvard men’s soccer team fell at last to then-No. 3 Wake Forest this past weekend. The loss was the first real blemish on an otherwise perfect season. Now the Crimson (6-1) must bounce back for the first time this season, facing Yale in the Ivy League opener. Harvard visits the Bulldogs (2-3-2) tomorrow night in the 96th matchup between the two schools.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN
After an impressive preseason, the No. 8 Crimson travel to New Haven this weekend to open its Ivy League schedule. Harvard has put together a 6-1 record this season, with its only loss coming in a closely contested battle against then-No.3 Wake Forest. The Crimson will be favored against Yale, which has struggled and is still looking to find its way as a team.
College Soccer at Odds with US Goals
Part 1: Where does college soccer fit in the landscape of American player development? You don’t need me to tell you that soccer is a growing sport in the United States. Its rosy future has been prognosticated ad infinitum for years by sports journalists. You could argue that the sport reached its apex this past summer with the stunning performance of the U.S. Men’s National Team in the FIFA Confederations Cup. Nearly four million viewers tuned in to watch the English-language broadcast of the USA-Brazil final, with countless more watching on Spanish-language TV network Univision.
Crimson Continues Run With Shutout Win
The No. 6 Harvard men’s soccer team (6-0-0) knocked off New Hampshire, 1-0, yesterday afternoon in Durham, N.H. to preserve
