NOTEBOOK: Lafayette Finds Motivation in Teammate
With eight consecutive losses to Harvard, the Lafayette football team didn’t need much extra motivation for Saturday’s game. But the Leopards got it in the form of freshman Peter Bross. Bross, a fullback from Allentown, Penn., was diagnosed with cancer just before his high school graduation. The rookie had been doing well in his first weeks on campus until a setback on Friday required hospitalization.

ITHACA, N.Y.—Last week, freshman running back Treavor Scales wasn’t in Bethlehem, Penn. for the Lehigh game because he had returned home to attend his grandmother’s funeral. “I was in fact very close to her,” Scales said. “She and I talked on a regular basis about once a week. She was just such a sweet woman. She wanted me to do the best in everything that I did—everybody in our family, myself and my little brother. She just really wanted us to do everything that we could to succeed in whatever we participated in.”
