FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR RUNNER-UP: Two-Sport Athlete Earns Accolades
Over 40 Crimson athletes were named first-team All-Ivy during the 2010-2011 seasons. One athlete received the honor twice. Her name is Melanie Baskind. The captain of the Harvard women’s lacrosse team in 2011 and a newly-elected captain of the soccer team had a remarkable junior campaign to say the least.

SWITCHING SIDES
Sophomore Courtney Diekema joined the crew team after playing for the women’s soccer team her freshman year. Her older brother Jordan, a senior, made a similar switch from the men’s swim team to club cycling.
Legros Scores Game-Winner Against Irish National Team
The Crimson (9-7-1, 4-3 Ivy) hosted the Irish women’s national team at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium, toppling its opponents, 2-1, in a thrilling friendly match.

Rookie Elizabeth Weisman, shown above in earlier action, had a standout performance for the Crimson against the Irish women’s national team on Friday. Harvard was first to strike thanks to junior Rebecca Millock’s goal, and junior Sophie Legros hit the game-winner to set the final score, 2-1.

A Perfect Finish
Junior Melanie Baskind scored two goals to help the Harvard women’s soccer team defeat Fairfield, 3-1, in its final game of the season. Coming out of halftime tied 1-1, the Crimson put the game away with an offensive surge led by Baskind and a defensive shutdown from sophomore goalkeeper AJ Millet. With the win, Harvard finishes its season with a 9-7-1 record.

Earlier today, the Ivy League office announced that Harvard co-captain Katherine Sheeleigh was voted the 2010 Ivy League Player of the Year, making her the first Crimson player to be selected for the honor since 1999.
