In Light of Tyga Controversy, Students Explore Yardfest Alternatives

Some students said they intend to spend the evening of Yardfest fulfilling extracurricular and academic commitments, while still others had previously made plans to attend the spring concerts at other universities also slated for this coming weekend.

Tyga Retained as Yardfest Headliner with Start Time Delayed

The College Events Board and the Harvard College Concert Commission will retain rapper Tyga as the headliner for Yardfest, but will push back the start time of his performance on Saturday to accommodate students unhappy with the selection, the two organizations announced in a statement Monday night.

Tyra for Yardfest (and Other Modest Proposals)

It's pretty clear that if the College Events Board cancels Tyga as this year's Yardfest performer, the chances of finding a suitable and affordable replacement for the rapper between now and April 15 are slim to none. But fear not! Flyby's come up with a list of some celebs who maybe, if we asked nicely enough, just might agree to come yell slurs at Harvard students on a Saturday afternoon in the near future.

Yardfest attendees tune in to Das Racist, the three-man band that performed alongside the Cataracts at Harvard’s annual musical concert held last April in Tercentenary Theater.

OSL Asks Yardfest Organizers To Reconsider Tyga Choice

The Office of Student Life has requested that the student groups organizing Yardfest reconsider their choice of Tyga as the headliner for the spring concert, following student outcry and an online petition claiming that the rapper’s lyrics promote sexism and violence.

More Than 1,000 Protest Tyga

An online petition urging administrators to cancel Tyga’s performance at Yardfest garnered more than one thousand signatures on Change.org late Sunday night, circulating via Facebook and email.

Tyga Officially Announced as Yardfest Headliner

Tyga will headline this year’s Yardfest, according to an official announcement made by the College Events Board Wednesday evening nearly 20 hours after two students preemptively revealed the artist.

Crouching Tyga, Hidden Yardfest

You may not know much about Tyga. He also may not have been your top choice to headline Yardfest this year. But that's okay. The Arts blog is here to acquaint you with the untold joys of Tyga's oeuvre.

Students' Discovery Points to Tyga For Yardfest Artist

Two undergraduates wrote a computer program Tuesday night to access a hidden promotional image of rapper Tyga on yardfest.org just hours before the website said it would reveal the artist set to perform at the annual spring concert in Harvard Yard.

Forecast: Yardfest 2013

As news pours in from around the country about other colleges' spring shows, Harvard awaits the announcement of Yardfest 2013's lineup with bated breath. Will it be Panic! at the Disco (because so many of us apparently want to believe that)? Macklemore, because he, like many of us, only has $20.00 in his pocket? In the meantime, a list of our most likely candidates:

Macklemore: Everywhere But Here

Mark your calendars, because on April 26th, Macklemore is coming to a campus near you! But, as always, you can't have your cake and eat it too—the "Thrift Shop" sensation isn't coming to Harvard, but to MIT's Springfest, before scrambling down to New Haven for Yale's Spring Fling. Yardfest better step it up this year.

Yardfest 2012 Draws Lackluster Crowd

When the three-man group Das Racist took the stage, overlooking the Harvard students gathered at YardFest in Tercentenary Theater, they offered a greeting that perhaps has not been yelled from the steps of Memorial Church before.

This year's YardFest featured The Nostalgics, 3LAU, Das Racist, and The Cataracs. If you want to join the conversation, watch Flyby's video highlights.

YardFest

YardFest. A hopefully clear sky looks down on a mingling of sweat, mud, and sound. Harvard Yard contains a stage surrounded by everyone from freshmen to seniors. Above, first-years perch precariously on the windowsills of Matthews and Weld, cheering as the performers finish each song. Kind of. Anyway, in just two days students will crowd into the Yard to hear The Nostalgics, Das Racist, 3LAU, and The Cataracts on stage. But until then, here are 10 pump-up songs to get you ready.
