Freshman Lippert Does It All for Harvard Offense

While the Crimson soundly defeated Maine yesterday, Harvard coach Kathy Delaney-Smith struggled to find a high point in her team’s play—that is, other than the play of freshman guard Victoria Lippert.

    Running Wild

After a tough mid-season loss to Lafayette two weeks ago, the Crimson crushed another Ivy League opponent on Saturday. Harvard football (5-2, 4-0 Ivy) justifyied its place at the top of the Ancient Eight with a 42-21 victory over Dartmouth (1-6, 1-3) just a week after trouncing Princeton, 37-3.

Harvard Beats Yale, Stays Perfect in Ivies

With ten minutes left in yesterday’s Harvard-Yale women’s soccer game, the Bulldogs snuck a shot past senior goalkeeper Lauren Mann. But, right before the ball crossed the goal line, Crimson junior defender Katie Kuzma made a crucial sliding stop. The play helped secure Harvard’s (7-5-1, 4-0 Ivy) exciting 3-2 victory over Yale (8-5, 3-1 Ivy). The win in New Haven also maintained the Crimson’s perfect league record. “It’s one of the top ten games I’ve ever seen,” Harvard Coach Ray Leone said after the match.

    Spirited Goalie Carries on Legacy

Take a look at the Harvard men’s water polo team’s lineup and something clearly stands out–other than a few players from Eastern Europe or New England, the Crimson’s roster is remarkably dominated by Californians. “There’s something about the team, the fact that most of us have the shared experience of not being from east coast places,” goalie Nikhil Balaraman said. “We can commiserate in the snow and all that terrible stuff that none of us had seen before.” Balaraman is a senior originally from the San Diego area, who despite the drastic change in weather, has established himself as an important part of the water polo team here at Harvard.

    Crimson Loses First Division Contest

Everyone loves a comeback story, but unfortunately for the Harvard men’s water polo team, this weekend didn’t have such a happy ending. The Crimson (5-14, CWPA Northern Division 3-2) fell to Brown (9-6, 3-2) and Iona (5-11, 3-1) in a pair of conference matches at Blodgett Pool Saturday and Sunday afternoon. In both games, Harvard recovered from early setbacks with good team and individual play, but this was not enough to capture a win. After suffering a 15-8 loss against the Bears, the Crimson came up short against the Gaels, losing 14-11.

Harvard Drops Second-Straight Match to Dartmouth

Everyone deserves a second chance, and the Harvard women’s volleyball got one. But the Crimson (4-9, 0-2 Ivy) couldn’t take advantage of its second consecutive meeting with Dartmouth, falling to the Big Green (6-6, 2-0) on Friday. Harvard fell 14-25, 22-25, 19-25 in a shutout against Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H., after the Big Green had defeated the Crimson at a home match on Sept. 25. The two-match series provided the teams with an opportunity to rework their play to best suit their opponents, Harvard arrived in Hanover with a different game plan than it had in the teams’ initial meeting.
