AN awful, horrid, beastly dream,

I ne'er will eat another dinner;

My family entire I've seen,

Acknowledge I'm the sinner.

For soups, and fish, and even beets,

With meats, and greens, and oyster sauce,

Are rich, and if a fellow eats

Too much of them, - of course!

He has a pain, he sees a ghost,

That stalks on every single dish,

And goblins served alive on toast,

And demons hid in dreams of fish,

And urchins bathed in every glass,

And Satan throned upon the salmon.

Now if things come unto this pass,

Why eating dinner sure is gammon.
