The University has just cause for gratification in the report of the Harvard Union for the past year. The Union is evidently increasing its firm hold upon the members of the University. The average attendance at the meetings during the past year has been more than double that of the preceding year. There is a rapidly increasing interest in that department of intellectual training, of which the Union is the only representative. The main point of criticism which we should make in regard to the attitude of the college toward the Union is that more men do not avail themselves of the privileges of the society earlier in their college course. If the Union can bring a strong influence to bear on these men, it would be able to accomplish its purpose with far more thoroughness.
