YALE 8. BROWN 3.

The Yale nine played their first championship game at Providence on Saturday, defeating Brown by a score of 8 to 3. The game was quite exciting but not very will played by either side. Yale scored her first run in the first inning after two men were out, on a wild throw to Doron, a wild pitch and a base hit by Souther. To this they added three runs in the fourth inning on a base on balls, several hits, a wild pitch and two passed balls. Brown made one run in the fifth on several bad errors by Yale, and in the seventh by hard hitting and more errors they succeeded in making two more, thus making the score 4 to 3 to Yale's favor. In the eighth and ninth innings, however, Yale got in some hard hitting, and aided by Gunderson's very wild pitching made four runs, while Brown failed to score. Brown was weak at the bat, and with the exception of Basset and Rhett, played poorly in the field. Yale batted quite heavily, but in the field they failed to show the sharpness and accuracy of last year's nine. On the whoie, it looks as if Harvard could look forward to a very close contest on Saturday next.

Below is the score.
