The Harvard Banjo Club.

The Harvard Banjo Club of the present is a very youthful organization, dating one year later than the first freshman glee club, which originated with the class of '88. The members of the class of '89 not only followed the praiseworthy step of their upper-classmen in forming a freshman glee club, but also instituted a class banjo club, which assisted the Glee Club at its concerts. The members of this club, at the end of their freshmen year, decided that there ought to be a regular 'varsity banjo club, so at the beginning of their sophomore term, in the fall of '86, the Harvard Banjo Club was instituted. Several new members were taken on, and the '90 Banjo Club, after its successful career, gave additional material for its support.

This year an open competition was held for new members, and about a dozen men presented themselves, of whom two were chosen, one being a piccolo player, who was greatly needed by the club. Many new pieces have been added to the club's repertory, and the men are working with a will. The officers of the club are: H. Cannier, '89, president; C. Copeland, '89, secretary and G. L. Osgood, '91, leader.
