'89 Wins the Fall Class Races.

The fall class races took place this afternoon on a course about three-quarters of a mile long, commencing at Gloucester street and ending at the Union Boat House. The time set for the race was 4.15, but it was 4.30 before the crews made their appearance, the freshmen first, followed by the juniors and seniors. The sophomores were late and appeared on the line with only six men. In coming through the piles, for the tide was too high to allow the boats to get under the bridge, No. 4's ontrigger was broken. This put '91 practically out of the race. The four crews got off together at the word of the starter. The seniors almost immediately forged ahead, closely followed by '90 and '92. The sophomores with only six men, were out of the race from the beginning. The crews kept their relative positions from start to finish, the race between '90 and '89 being very well contested. At the finish '89 was ahead with '90's bow overlapping the senior's stern. The freshmen were scarcely a length behind '90, and surprised everyone by their excellent showing. Their body work showed a lack of experience but their time was good and they pulled hard. As the river was full of floating logs and refuse wood, and the seniors were held back by a large piece which caught on their bow, the poor time which was made-nearly five minutes-is easily accounted for.

The Beacon street wall was lined with spectators, who enlivened the race by their enthusiaatic cheering. The freshmen were especially jubilant, and have evidently taken hold of rowing in the right way. The crews were composed of the following men:-

Seniors-Bow, E. W. Dustan; 2, J. H. Proctor; 3, C. A. Hight; 4, E. C. Pfeiffer; 5, F. E. Parker (captain); 5, A. P. Hebard; 7, E. C. Storrow; stroke, C. E. Schroll; coxswain, J. E. Whitney.
