The conditions attending the freshman meeting yesterday afternoon were not very favorable to fast time. The air was raw and there was a bad wind on the back stretch.
The 2-mile bicycle race was the first event. W. D. Greenleaf was the only entry. He covered the distance in 6m 23 1-5s. Brown, '91 acted at pace-maker in several of the laps. The 100-yards dash was run in one heat. Six men started, M. I. Mott, J. P. Lee, O. K. Hawes, J. H. Rhoades, C. S. Baxter and T. S. Lee. J. P. Lee won in 10 2-5s with Hawes second by about a yard and a half. In the mile walk there were three entries, R. C. Wood, C. T. R. Bates and R. W. Hale. Bates was the strongest man and won in 8m, 36s. Wood showed the best form, being a good second. The half-mile run was a good race. G. L. Batchelder, G. W. Priest and R. M. White were the starters. The first quarter was rather slow, each man trying to shift the pace making onto the other. Bachelder won in 2m, 7 4-5s, with Priest second. The running broad jump was between J. P. Lee and W. N. Duane. Lee won at 19 ft., 3 1-2 in. The mile run was a walk-over for A, M. White. W. N. Duane and J. P. Lee appeared also for the running high jump. Duane dropped out out at 5 ft., leaving Lee winner. Lee then cleared 5 ft., 3 in., but failed at the next jump. 5ft., 6 1-2in. The quarter-mile run was done in very good time. J. H. Rhoades, W. H. Wright and G. L. Batchelder were the contestants. Wright set a very smart pace and kept the pace straight through the race, winning in 54 1-5s. Rhoades was second. The pole-vault was a walk-over for W. N. Duane. The 220 yards dash closed the meeting. M. I. Motte had the pole, then came J. P. Lee, O. K. Hawes, J. Allen and T. S. Lee in the order given. T. S. Lee was set back a yard for going over the mark. J. P. Lee won the event in 24s, with O. K. Hawes second.
