The Harvard eleven played its first game of the season with the Worcester Institute of Technology, at Worcester, Saturday afternoon. The game was witnessed by about 4000 spectators. The rain made the ground slippery and took away much of the advantage that the superior weight of the Harvard team would have ordinarily afforded it. The Worcester men were very light, but played a plucky game and tackled unusually well, the best work being done by Allen, Lake and Patterson. The Harvard men played with as much steadiness and snap as could be expected when the brief time they have been in training is considered.

Samuel Winslow, '85, refereed the game, and Geo. E. Camp, of Worcester, was umpire.

The referee put the ball in play at twenty minutes of three, and in three and one half minutes Cumnock scored the first touchdown. At the end of the first half, the score stood, Harvard, 44; Technology, 0. In the last half, Technology played a stronger game and Harvard only scored twenty-six more points, making the score at the end of the hour-two half-hours were played-Harvard, 70; Technology, 0. The touchdowns were made as follows: V. Harding, 5; Cumnock, 2; G. Harding, 2, and Cranston, Trafford, Finley, Morse and Fitzhugh each one-total 14-from which Harding kicked seven goals. The teams were made up as follows:-

Harvard-Full-back, Fitzhugh; half-backs, Hunnewell, V. Harding (captain); quarter-back, G. Harding; rushers, Cumnock, Trafford, Finlay, Morse (centre), Cranston, Davis, Perry.

Technology.-Full-back, Patterson; half-backs, White (captain), Lake; quarter-back, A. P. Allen; rushers, Crosby, Price, Churchill, W. W. Allen (centre); Gilbert, Follett, Dawson.

Sears did not play on account of a slight injury he received, and V. Harding acted as captain in his place.
