The freshmen defeated the Fall River High School eleven on Jarvis Field Saturday afternoon in a game characterized by miserable tackling and loose playing generally. Kendricken, Frothingham and Dunn were the only men who tackled effectively and the freshmen were able to run up a large score against the visitors only because of their heavier rush line. The High School team did not play as good a game as it had been expected they would; during the last half they were badly demoralized, and played without spirit.

The game began at 3.07 with Harvard in possession of the ball. The freshmen immediately forced the play down to the visitors twenty-five yard line but on account of loose work did not score until 3.15, when Davis carried the ball across line and secured the first touchdown. Frothingham kicked the goal. Score 6-0. In one of the scrimmages which followed putting the ball it play, Manning indulged in some slugging, and was immediately disqualified; Collamore took his place. Broughton, by two long rushes scored the second the second touchdown at 3.21. No goal. Score 10-0. Four minutes later Cummings was forced across the line, and the goal was kicked Score 16-0. The visitors now braced in their play, and aided by poor tackling by the freshmen, forced the ball into Harvard's territory. It took the freshmen fifteen minutes again to work the ball down the field, but at 3.39 Davis was again pushed across the line. Goal. Score 22-0. Soon after the ball had been put in play J. Borden was disqualified for slugging, and Gray took his place. Just before time was called Davis secured a touchdown. The try for a goal was a failure, but Cummings dropped on the ball within two feet of the line and it was again forced over; no goal. Score 30-0. Time was called before the ball was put in play.

The second half began at 4.03, Fall River tried playing a kicking game, and succeeded in keeping the ball away from their goal for a time. S. Borden was injured at this stage of the game and Hill took his place. Finally Frothingham caught the ball in the middle of the field, and making the prettiest rush of the afternoon scored a touchdown at 4.16, from which he kicked a goal. Score 36-0. Fall River again punted; Broughton secured the ball, and in two rushes brought in near the line; Davis found a hole at 4.19, and scored; score 42-0. Broughton fumbled a punt badly, and the ball was down within five yards of Harvard's line: but good rushes by Vail and Davis carried it back to the other end of the field, and at 4.29 Vail secured another touchdown; no goal, score, 46-0. Five minutes later Broughton ran around the end of the line, and scored; no goal, score 50-0. During the remaining ten minutes of the game, Cummings, Vail, and Broughton scored touchdowns and Frothingham kicked the three goals, bringing the final score up to 68-0.
