The Lacrosse Mass Meeting.

The mass meeting of the Lacrosse association was held as advertised yesterday afternoon, in Holden Chapel, President Haskell in the chair. The call for this meeting stated that "lack of attendance at this meeting would be considered as an expression of the desire of the University that Harvard should discontinue her connection with Intercollegiate lacrosse." The meeting yesterday afternoon was attended by about forty men who play lacrosse and ten men besides, thus making it evident that there is no desire on the part of the students at large to support a 'varsity lacrosse team. The question was carefully debated by Messrs. Harding '89, Garrison '88, Ropes '89, Williams '85, Blodgett L. S., and others. A motion by Mr. Harding, that the association do not send a team on the proposed trip this week, was carried after some opposition. Mr. Harding then made a motion which was slightly amended by Mr. Blodgett, that the "Harvard Lacrosse association shall be maintained simply until its debts are paid in full, under the condition that the association shall incur no more debts." The motion was carried.

This action of the association was taken upon the advice of Professor Dunbar and Dr. Hart of the Athletic committee of the faculty. The games which were arranged with Lehigh University, Stevens Institute, the Druids of Baltimore, and the Staten Islands have been given up. At the close of the meeting Messrs. Haskell, Griswold, and Blodgett were appointed a committee to receive subscriptions with which to pay off the present debt.
